In my role as Technology Coordinator at San Ramon Valley High School, I have had the opportunity to lead many Technology Committees after school and weekly technology meetings during the day with the technology staff (6 people), teaching staff (120 Teachers) and administration (4 members). Throughout the process I have surveyed the staff, the parents and the students many times to assess our technology situation and to help guide professional development.
The surveys that are listed below had an impact on the school in many different ways. The technology survey that was given to the teachers informed me and the technology staff what software applications and internet websites the staff was struggling with in the classroom. By having this information I was able to provide specific training that focused on these difficult areas. The "Student Survey" and the "Fall Tech" survey focused on the technology that the students were comfortable using and their desires for more training in specific areas in technology. These were given at the start of our Bring Your Own Device pilot program and were used as a marker of the students' starting point with technology as well as gauging student beliefs about technology in the classroom.
The use of these surveys are vital to gathering information from multiple parties. By allowing for the input of everyone involved, I believe, the resulting professional development can be more effective.
